Cut-off bending cell for pipe bends
Pipe bends are not only familiar to skilled craftsmen from the DIY store, they can also be found in every house and apartment. As connecting pieces, they are an essential part of installation technology. Dreiling Maschinenbau GmbH has designed and manufactured a machine for Viega LLC that produces pipe bends.
Our client:
Viega LLC is an internationally active manufacturer and world market leader of a wide range of products for the entire installation technology sector, including metal pipe connectors for plumbing and heating; location: McPherson, Kansas, USA
The mission:
Design, manufacture, assemble and commission a cut-off bending cell for pipe bends as the start of a production line that bends metal into the right shape and cuts it to the right length.
The challenge:
The challenge with this order lay in the customer’s performance requirements. As this is a high-volume product for large-scale end production, a pipe bend must be ready for further processing in just a few seconds. To achieve this, we completely redeveloped or redesigned a cutter (cutting head) so that it can cut the pipes in less than three seconds.
Our solution:
Within 15 months, we designed, manufactured, assembled and commissioned an approximately 21-metre-long cut-to-length bending cell for pipe bends as the start of a production line in the USA.
At the start of the value chain, the raw material arrives at the machine (left), is then turned to length and bent before being passed on to the downstream machine of another manufacturer for further processing.
